My fascination with geometric shapes comes after years of shooting aerial photographs while strapped in with a harness hanging out the door of either a high-wing plane or small helicopter.
As a child I thrived on painting tiny toy solders in an array of colours to match their complex uniforms paying attention to the smallest details; shirts and pants, pockets, helmets, hats, rifles, waist belts or whatever – all 50 of them had to look the same!
These past experiences have created a passion for objects with strong internal and external boundaries with vivid colour, texture, or other material composition that is geometrically similar but may not be congruent.
In most of my work, I mentally break down images into simple geometric shapes that have a sense of intensity and communicate a message to the viewer that is dynamic.
